Comment from Leslie Harris: I'm sure it's family Hesionidae and genus Ophiodromus. If you take a look at this image of the cold-water European species Ophiodromus flexosus you'll see the basic pigment pattern is quite similar.
Thanks to Dr. Richard C. Willan for forwarding this photo to two polychaete experts (Dr Chris Glasby and Ms Charlotte Watson). They have looked at this photo of the polychaete worms from Bali. They agree that it belongs in the order Phyllodocida, but are unable to decide on any family within that order.
So the photo can best be labelled as:
Phylum Annelida: class Polychaeta: order Phyllodocida: family uncertain. Possibly an undescribed species.
Thanks to Ivan Choong for suggesting identification for this species. His comment: I have seen similar shaped worms in Pulau Aur before but then it was red color. Are these similar to those? Sadly, I do not have any pictures to go with the ones I saw.
