Dave Morgan
Nationality: English
Residence: Telford, Shropshire, UK.
Started diving with his wife, Janet, in 1998 at the age of 47 after watching a TV personality doing a “underwater documentary”, took a PADI course in the UK, once qualified they dived together in the UK every week.
The fist places he and his wife visited overseas were Sharm El Shiekh in Egypt and Gibraltar, it was not long before Dave purchased a 35mm Motor Marine II, he only managed to get one or two decent shots from this camera after going through roll upon roll of film so he gave up on that. Dave and his wife, Janet, were due on a trip to the Yucatan to dive the Senote’s and the reef’s of Cozumel so they purchased a video camera and a Gates housing, He managed to flood this on their first dive by not installing the dome port correctly, a lesson learnt, so no pictures from that trip. They wanted the photos and images for their logbooks, to record dive experiences. In 2001, he purchased a little Sony DSC P-1 3.2 MP point and shoot, it took some good shots but by 2004 he wanted to get more control over the shots he took so he bought a Nikon D70 and a Ikelite housing, The first time he used the camera was 2005 where he managed to get some good shots from a trip out to Mabul and Sipadan. His equipment now comprises of Nikon D70, Nikon D70s, 60mm Micro Nikkor, 10.5mm Nikkor Fisheye, Ikelite housing, twin Ikelite DS125 strobes, flat port and wide angle dome port, he has yet to use the 10.5mm lens and dome port as the port is a recent addition.
They have dived in some great places: Australia East Coast, Great Barrier Reef, and Coral Sea on several liveaboards, Bali, Tulamben and Nusa Penida, The great Wrecks of Chuuk Lagoon, Cozumel, Egypt Red Sea too many times to count, The Key’s in Florida, Bequa Lagoon off Fiji, Gibraltar, Lembeh Straits on 3 occasions, The Maldives, Manado & Bunaken, Lissenung Island PNG, Sipadan, Mabul & Kapalai from their favourite resort “Seaventures” platform, they have had 6 or 7 trips to Seaventures, such is the great diving out here. Tenerife in the Canary Islands and Yap in Micronesia. Their favourite places for diving are around Mabul in Sabah and of course the Lembeh Straits where they have seen the most fantastic critters. They have dived with lots of great buddies and guides although he maintain that his wife is the best spotter I have dived with, made friends everywhere they have been and enjoyed ourselves far more than they ever thought possible. His passion now is macro photography, and favourite little critters are the many varied nudibranchs that can be found almost everywhere. You can see their diving history at http://www.seatreker.com
