David has been diving since 1974 at which time there were no national certifying agencies and he was using a Nemrod Siluro (box brownie type) underwater camera with flash bulbs.
He has done very few trips away due to business commitments, preferring anyway to concentrate on the local South East Queensland sites and wildlife.
For the past 4 years he has joined Gary Cobb in a quest to find and identify all the Opisthobranchs on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
He has recently retired from his engineering business and now spends every weekend scouring the reefs off the Sunshine Coast in search of the next creature to add to the list. He and Gary have found 318 different species in the area.
They now have their own boat and dive using twin 12 liter Nitrox tanks giving 2 to 3 hours bottom time depending on the site depth. Due to the extended bottom time they both use dry suits now to stay warm.
