Dorothea Nelson

Nationality: American

Residence: Bali, Indonesia

Thea has a host of interests to keep her busy, she is a dive instructor, translator, editor, English teacher and most importantly mother to two rambunctious boys who keep her on her toes. She is actively involved in Kapal Selam Dive Club and its environmental and social efforts. Dorothea discovered her love for nudibranchs through the Club. She still refuses to learn their Latin names.

Dorothea doesn’t get many chances to shoot nudibranchs, and is more often found scouting muck, rubble and reef in search of the elusive creatures for Hengky Dotulong. On rare occasions when the moon is just right and her husband isn’t diving she has been known to steal off with a camera in hand to get a few underwater shots.

Dorothea has dived the Caribbean, Malaysia and Indonesia. Her favorite sites are in Indonesia’s waters. She has been diving in Karimunjawa, Bunaken, Alor, Komodo, Lombok, and Selayar. She dives Bali every chance she gets.
