This subspecies Aegires gardineri nigerrima appears only in the Maldives, and you can see the tubercles are smaller and fewer than in the nominal species occurring elsewhere.Comment from Scott Johnson on photo #12898

An extremely dark individual but identifiable as Aegires gardineri by the black blotches (instead of lines) on the sides of the foot. In this photo the rhinophores are visible – note that they are completely smooth. Amongst dorid nudibranchs, the Aegiridae is almost the only family to have completely smooth rhinophores.Locality:
