This photo of an individual crawling shows the gills nicely. Often aegirids are reluctant to expose their gills.

An atypical individual with a lot of orange and hardly any white or pink on the mantle.

A typical individual. Note the smooth rhinophores without any elaboration, which are characteristic of the Aegiridae and unique among dorids. Note that the spelling Aegiridae is correct for this family (Aegiretidae is an incorrect spelling).
