This species of Doto, which feeds on several different hydroids, is characterised by the creamish cerata with maroon-red pigment spots on the ceratal tubercles and on the body, the 4 rows of ceratal tubercles, and by the club-shaped cerata with a tall terminal tubercle.

This small dendronotoid nudibranch is characterised by the red or maroon pigment (as streaks or smudges) on the lower inside of each ceras immediately adjacent to the little secondary gill, a translucent white body with red or maroon pigment streaks, and compound cerata with a red spot at the tip of each tubercle.

This small dendronotid nudibranch is characterised by a broad reddish brown band on the head and reddish brown cerata with a pink-purple spot at the summit of each papilla. By contrast, Doto pinnatifida has no markings on the head and more elongate cerata.
