Comment from Richard Willan on photo #5907
This is an atypical individual that lacks longitudinal purple lines on the sides of the body.

Comment from Richard Willan on photo #3676
An individual with a very unusual colour pattern on the cerata. Furthermore, the oral tentacles seem to be missing possibly as the result of predation.

Comment from Richard Willan on photo #3587
An individual with an unusual colour pattern of multiple red rings on the cerata.

Comment from Richard Willan on photo #2534
Note the red longitudinal stripe down the middle of the back which is characteristic of this species, and also the tapering pointed oral tentacles (flattened and paddle-like in Flabellina riwo, Flabellina bilas and Flabellina bicolor). There would have been another stripe along each side of the foot, but they are not visible in this photo because of the angle it was taken from.

Comment from Richard Willan on photo #2175
The three longitudinal red lines are specific for Flabellina rubrolineata and they never occur in Flabellina bilas.

Comment from Richard Willan on photo #11
Typical colour form. Nice image showing the long pointed oral tentacles and rhinophores with papillae clustered on the posterior face. This particular animal seems to have very long propodial tentacles, but it could be an illusion because of the angle the shot was taken.

Flabellina exoptata. Its consistent characters are the vivid orange rhinophores with numerous papillae on the posterior side and the central purple (or bluish violet) ring on the cerata.

Flabellina rubrolineata also has papillae on its rhinophores, but it has 3 longitudinal stripes on its body.

Flabellina delicata also has papillae on its rhinophores, but it has a purplish body and oral tentacles, and the tips of the cerata are dark purple.

Flabellina macassarana has lamellate rhinophores (i.e., numerous plate-like folds). It has a translucent pinkish to purplish white body, and the tips of the cerata are burnt orange.
