Externally this species is very similar to Noumea sulphurea because both have a yellow mantle with relatively large orange spots around the edge and both occur in southern and southeastern Australia. Noumea closei also has some orange spots in the central part of the mantle (as can be seen in the individual), which distinguishes it from Noumea sulphurea which does not. Locality:
