This species is very similar to Philinopsis cyanea in general appearance and colouration, but the shape of the male genital organs is different.Comment from Richard Willan on photo #2971
Presently believed to be endemic to the warmer waters of the Cape Province, South Africa. Externally this species is indistinguishable from the widespread Indo-Pacific Philinopsis cyanea (= Philinopsis speciosa), but details of the male reproductive system are said to differ.Locality:
