P. alyta seems to become more white as it crosses the Indian Ocean.

This is alyta, with four longitudinal black lines, rows of tubercles which are usually orange-tipped, and the black bar between the rhinophores.

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #19163
There are no perpendicular lines around the edge as in varicosa.

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #18191
You can tell because there is more white background than black, and there are spots and patches around the margin rather than perpendicular lines. Not easy!

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #21185
Four neat black lines, bar between the rhinophores, usually the central and next two with orange tubercles.

Another pale one. Lots of bleached out Phyllidias are turning up more frequently now…

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #19465
I can just barely see the black bar between the rhinophores, so this is a very pale form

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #13401
Four longitudinal black lines, the three rows of tubercles should be yellow. Black line (spot in this case) between rhinophores.

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #15829
A very pale one. Usually there is orange on tops of the 3 middle rows of tubercles.

This is Phyllidia alyta. No perpendicular lines around the margin, and you can just see the small horizontal bar betweent he rhinophores.

This is definitely alyta. Pleae check again with Richard, but I am sure he will agree.

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #14402
I am wondering if this is a pale Phyllidia alyta?? I cannot see the top very well, but it isn't elegans.

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #13657
Yes, this is Phyllidia alyta, albeit a very pale version. The black lines are very 'clean' in this species, which usually has bright orange tubercles. The black bar between the rhinophores is characteristic, and there is a broken black line on the sole of the foot.

Nice Phyllida alyta! although the second individual has some wayward black lines. Nice to see it outside the Maldives.

Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #644
This looks more like the back end of Phyllidia alyta than Phyllidia varicosa: the clean black lines and few specks in the margin are more like Phyllidia alyta. In Phyllidia varicosa there are perpendicular black lines leading off the outer longitudinal lines, mostly usually connected.
