Comment from Richard Willan on photo #21874
Refer to information that the size is 60 mm, the ventral anus, and the lack of a black line on the foot sole, this is Phyllidia sp.Comment from Scott Johnson on photo #6548
The Sea Slugs of Hawaii site (http://www.seaslugsofhawaii.com/species/Phyllidia-sp1-a.html) suggests this one is different from Phyllidia varicosa. It could be an undescribed species of Phyllidia.Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #26323
Orange rhinophores therefore Phyllidia. A new species? What an extravagant colour pattern!Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #13049
This individual clearly has a dorsal anus so cannot be picta. Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #19007
The small yellow tubercles scattered on the black dorsum are indicative of Phyllidia carlsonhoffi, but it would depend on a line on the sole of the foot. Phyllidia madangensis is similar, but without the black line on the sole.Comment from Richard Willan on photo #9645
I have never seen this species before. It is not Phyllidiopsis quadrilineata.Comment from Richard Willan on photo #5972
A photograph of this species already appears on Nudi Pixel at http://www.nudipixel.net/photo/00002348/Comment from Nathalie Yonow on photo #2348
Comment from Dr. Nathalie Yonow: I don’t want to catch you up in the argument over Phyllidia ocellata. I have proved that Phyllidia ocellata, Phyllidia japonica, Phyllidia multituberculata and Phyllidia undula are all good species. As far as I am concerned, this one needs a name ad should be Phyllidia sp.Comment from Dr. Richard C. Willan: Although this is a somewhat atypical individual, it is definitely within the known intraspecific variation for Pyllidia ocellata.
