Only a few cerata of this individual are visible towards the top right of this photo. The individual itself is buried down in a colony of its food, the soft coral Xenia sp.Comment from Richard Willan on photo #5175

A Phyllodesmium with longitudinal ridges on the upper section of its cerata, which I think it is a dark coloured form of Phyllodesmium jackobsenaePrevious comment from Dr. Richard Willan: This aeolid, which mimics the soft corals on which it feeds, is characterised the by the cerata having swollen tips with longitudinal ridges. This individual is atypical in being reddish brown; most individuals are coloured creamish green.

This aeolid nudibranch is characterised by the slightly flattened cerata with brown patches (containing symbiotic zooxanthellae) on each side. It is a good mimic of its host, a soft coral of the genus Xenia. By contrast, Phyllodesmium longicirrum has much larger very flattened cerata with enlarged ends like paddles, and the brown zooxanthellae are arranged in rings.Locality:
