This is an exceptionally atypical individual. Thorunna daniellae normally has a thin unbroken purple submarginal line, but in this individual it is represented by a series of very large purple spots connected by a rather wide violet-blue line. Some individuals with this pattern of spots/dashes instead of a line are already known (e.g., Bertsch & Johnson 1981: 109), but nowhere near as dark as this individual. Fortunately for identification, the semi-transparent uniformly pink mantle abs red rhinophores and gills of this specimen are characteristic of Thorunna daniellae. This photo represents the first record of this species from Malaysia.Comment from Richard Willan on photo #4136

This is an interesting, and - if I interpret it correctly – most unusual, individual in which the purple submarginal band has a red mid-central section. Nobody has ever reported this colour variation previously.Locality:
